Sunday was a beautiful summer day that screamed “Get Out Of The House!”, little did I know (for me), it also screamed “You’re Probably Going To Head Butt Someone Today”, but it did. Here’s how it all went down . . .
(Before I say anything further, let me just say this. Never in my life have I gotten into a fight or head butted a person. I guess, I can’t say that anymore.)
Me and my lady friend Kim got out of the house in the late afternoon for some sun and sushi, so we headed to downtown DC and went to one of our favorite little sushi spots called Nooshi on 19th street.
We had some fried crab and corn wontons, threw back a few Saporro’s, and a few rolls of sushi (including my favorite - spicy crunchy yellowtail).
As we sat there, not even in my wildest of dreams could I have imagined what was soon to transpire.
So we get up and decide to go for a walk. Kim wants to go to a little hookah bar in Adams Morgan called Soussi, so that’s where we head.
About 25 minutes later we’re there. We go inside. We get a table. She orders a drink and mixed berry flavored hookah and we hang out.
Truthfully, I was tired and wanted to go home, but instead of falling asleep I decide to get me a Redbull and vodka.
Not to long after they started a series of old school rap songs that I hadn’t heard in years, so we stayed a little longer (3 hours or so longer)
About 10 at night we head out to catch a cab back home, but I decide I want to get a BIG slice (and when I say big I mean HUGE) of pizza at restaurant about a block and a half away, so we walk over.
I order and in walks a knuckle head with a girl. They’re arguing. Things get heated and the sucker starts throwing things at her.
The guys in pizza shop tell them to leave.
He’s sloppy drunk and ignores them.
A few second later he hits the girl and before I can think I go over and knock the dude on his ass and hold him down one with one arm. After about 30 seconds I let him up, but keep him away from the girl.
While I turn my head he head butts me. Without thinking, I return the favor and throw the punk out.
Two minutes later my pizza is ready. I pay for it. I tip the guy. The store owner thanks me, and Kim and I walk out.
Now, why do I share this little story with you? It’s certainly not to say I’m one for violence and fighting, or to say “hey look at me I saved the day”, no.
Simply this.
Life calls for action.
You’re in your business or you aspire right now to be in one NOT so much because you logically went through the pro and cons of starting a business, but rather, because you were driven by something deep down inside to act.
Maybe at first you only saw the potential to make money.
Maybe it was because you aspired to become rich.
Maybe it was because you wanted more control and freedom and you saw those things available to you.
Maybe it was because you wanted to be hero for your family and friends.
Whatever it was, it sparked a feeling. Do you remember how liberating that felt?
In that split second you didn’t think about what might happen, you just went for it. You acted.
In that moment, your life changed, all possibilities opened up for you, for that moment you were the success you desired, but probably didn’t even know it (I know I didn’t).
And one truth I’ve found that supersedes all others is your success lies in that feeling in that moment when you acted. Harnessing it. Never letting it go. Never letting anyone or anything diminish it.
You keep that feeling and guess what happens?
You keep acting.
You loose that feeling and you stop.
Attaining your hearts desires is simpler than we think.
It’s not a trick or strategy that you can learn. It’s that feeling of limitless possibility that excites each of us to act. You keep that fire burning and WILL do everything it takes to get to your destination.
Why?
Because ONLY there do all obstacles and past experiences fad into nothingness freeing you to simply go do what must be done, and . . . When you’re there success becomes both inevitable and effortless.
That’s where to magic lives.
Acting to stop a girl from getting beat up in the pizza shop without thinking about it and you doing whatever must be done to create the future you see in your dreams are no different.
Simply relax, LOVE where you are now, focus that feeling and ride it to your ultimate life.
Last night, as you know, the doors to the “Maximum Leverage” mentoring program closed, and as we were changing gears I started thinking about a simple question
“What piece of advice would have helped me the MOST if I was just getting started?”
Today, I want to share with you a few pieces of advice proven to get your business growing and leads flowing fast, even if you’re just getting going. Pay close attention . . .
When I first got started online I was so excited and “money hungry” I did anything that seemed to be an easy fast way to riches, and as a result I wasted months getting no where fast.
If you’re just getting going, there are two things you need to do before I lay out your game plan for fast profits . . .
1. Forget about what seems to be the freest and easiest path. Things like sending messages to safelists or hanging out tweeting all day without rhyme, reason, or structure. It’s just not going to get you anywhere. The funny thing about us is we tend to always flow to the path of least resistance first, it’s good advice to not fall into this trap.
2. Give into the obsession. You’re online. You’re reading this right now for one simple reason, you’ve either got a full on addiction to cracking the internet code or you soon will. This is a good thing. Give into it. Trust it. And use that energy wisely making the right moves, not the easiest ones.
Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s dig in and get moving on lead getting the right way . . . Here’s what’s next. Focus.
The internet is ONLY a medium of leverage it’s not magic. Good old business principles still apply. In order for your business to run, you’ve got to figure out two things:
1. What You’re Selling: McDonald’s sells hamburgers. They know that, you know that. there is no confusion. It’s got to be the same way in all that you do. What are you selling? Figure it out. Don’t try to be all things to all people, again a time waster.
2. Who Are You Selling To: Once you know what you’re selling it becomes far easier to “find” ideal prospects for it. For instance, if you’re in a network marketing business you’re NOT selling health and wellness or whatever your companies product is, you’re selling the opportunity for a better lifestyle through your companies products or services. You’re looking for people who want more money.
Once you’ve got a firm grip on what you’re selling and who you’re selling to, next you ask . . . Where do I find them?
The mistake most people make (including myself) is they just go. They never ask themselves who they’re looking for and as a result they find everyone and no one. And you’re looking for neither.
You’re really looking for a “prospect” for what you have to sell them, in our example “opportunity”, so where do you find “opportunity” prospects?
Well I could go through a list of several strategies on where to find these folks, but the simplest answer is to reverse engineer how you’ve found opportunity related information yourself. Choose one way that worked on you and mimic it.
We’re still left with a problem “How do we get your prospects attention and then turn them into leads?”
Have you ever been to the mall in the food court section and walked past one of the vendors who’s giving away free samples? Do the exact same thing . . .
You first get the attention of your prospects and have them take the first proactive action towards you by giving them a “sample” of your product. Here’s a simple way to do that:
Do an interview with an expert in your opportunity, for our example, find someone in your company who’s doing well and ask them for a short 20 minutes interview.
Most people would be more than happy to do it. Use a conferencing service like InstantTelseminar or FreeConferenceCall to set up the interaction and to record it.
In the interaction, just ask them to share their most important “keys” to success and let the interaction flow naturally.
Once recorded, now you have unique value to share with your market specific to your “opportunity”. You can give them a free sample by either giving them the recording or selling it to them cheap.
=========================
POWERFUL TIP: If you want to get advanced, what you could do is cut the recording into two pieces. Give your prospects the first piece after they opt into your website (Which I’ll tell you how to create in a second) and then underneath the first recording use a simple tell a friend script to release the other half of the interview.
Tell them, “for the power packed second half of the interview where they will learn XYZ, just refer a few friends and you’ll send it to them.”
Now you’ll get even more traction and get your message in front of even more “ideal” prospects without doing much of anything.
=========================
Now all you’ve got to do is set up a simple lead capture page. For a headline simply call a spade a spade. Here’s an example:
“Secret 21 Minute Interview Reveals: How An Ex (Old Job Of Person Being Interviewed) From (Where They Live) Went From (Negative Aspect Of Their Life) To (Wealth Or Prospect Greed Attribute) In (Time Frame) Following A Simple (X) Step System . . .Yours Free For A Limited Time” ($27 Value)
Ok so all you’ve got to do is fill in the blanks, and then next you say: Inside you’ll learn . . .
Then simply create a few simple bullet points based on what you talked about in the interview.
Instruct them to opt in and now you’ve got what I call a high powered “Lead Booby Trap” (By the way, if you need a tool to help you create a lead capture page I recommend Marketing Makeover Generator for the novice)
Following this simple method, you’ll attract prospects who are action takers, they will see you as an expert by association for interviewing an expert, and you’ll be giving a high value unique sample of your product to put into effect the law of reciprocation.
Now you’re in growth mode! If you take these simple actions I’ve just shared you’ll have created a platform for instant success from a standing start.
Be sure to share your question and comments below.

A few days ago in our regularly scheduled “MLM Underground” training call we discussed the proper use of blogging to recruit and enhance your home business. Make no mistake blogging is extremely powerful as a business building tool “if” used properly, here’s how to do it right . . .
One of the biggest mistake I see people making in their blogging efforts is “why” they use them. Most people tend to think of blogging as a primary traffic generation strategy, and it can be, but it’s not THE best use of a blog in our type of business.
You should think of blog traffic more like icing on the cake. The primary and MOST powerful use of starting and using a blog in your business is it’s ability to create a powerful testimonial for you. Let me explain . . .
When I started my first successful business here’s exactly what I did. On an almost daily basis I blogged about something relating to my business, at the top of that blog I would always note the number of people in our team, and then carry on with the message.
Sometimes if I had new recruits I would create a formal blog welcome to my new team mates by listing their names and welcoming them to the team.
If there was a co-op, advertising strategy that was working well for me, you better bet I put in on that blog.
Why? Well, I haven’t told you how I used my blog to recruit yet (we’ll get to that in a second), but along with using a blog to recruit I also constantly referred my team members there for any and all updates on our business.
It was a central meeting point. As a result my team always checked the blog to see what was going on in our business. This was important for two reasons:
First, easy access to important current information pertaining to our team, and second as team wide social proof.
They came to the blog and saw the number of people on the team growing and welcome messages to our new team members and subconsciously it helped raise their belief level about the business they were in.
It’s sometimes easy for a new recruit to get discouraged without encouragement and the blog helped give them that encouragement they needed. As a result they “believed” in the business, and took more proactive action to go out and do what we were doing to grow which translated into a higher rate of duplication in the business and longer retention.
So let’s recap so far, we’ve got a blog where we’re blogging about our team, what we’re doing to advertise, we’re “training” our team members to check the blog often for advice and encouragement and as a result their using that motivation to go out and build. This causes the team to grow faster, stronger, and better.
What do we have? That sounds like a pretty darn powerful testimonial to me. And that’s the primary use of the blog as far as recruiting is concerned as I mentioned earlier.
The mistake most people make is they want to blog for traffic, which you can do, and I’ll share a few tips to doing that better in a few, but not it’s best use for recruiting. Here’s how to use your blog to recruit . . .
I’d generate leads directly to my own lead capture page or my company’s lead capture page. Once I saw my lead opt in I would send them a personal email to tell them a little bit about myself, our team, and our business. In that email I would always include a link to my blog so my prospects could get an inside look at who I and our team was doing.
This is powerful as heck for a couple reasons where recruiting is concerned.
First, people are inherently voyeuristic. They wanna spy, so let them. By sending my prospects to my blog they now had the opportunity to get to know me and my team without me even being there. As a result, when we did have an email correspondence or they called me they already knew me.
I’ve always found this to be a MUCH better option than cold calling leads. I let them get to know me first.
Second reason this is powerful is based on a principle called “The Power Of Documentation” which states we as humans tend to take things which we read as more truthful than things we just hear.
In other words, a prospect who goes to your blog and reads about you and your team is going to take what they read there at face value where if you’re on the phone telling them the same thing they’re most likely saying “Yeah right”
If you’ve ever called leads and had that question come up of “Well why should I join you?” Having and sending your prospects to your blog first will virtually eliminate this objection and ignite powerful curiosity and intrigue about you and what you do.
So, when it comes to using a blog to recruit, it’s best us is as a secondary traffic strategy. You get the lead, then you send them to your blog for a powerful testimonial.
So I can hear the question welling up “What should I put on my blog to start?” Simple, talk about yourself, your company’s products and service, why you love your company, your team, AND here’s a key . . .
Ask your upline or downline to write you a quick note about why it’s great to work with you and put it on your blog.
You do that, and you’ve covered all your bases. Not only are your prospects learning about you, why you like what you do, your personality, your team, BUT they’re also SEEING other people saying great things about you. Third party validation about you is a powerful thing.
Simply doing this and nothing else, I was surprised to see that after about six months of consistent blogging my blog received about 300 site views per day from people finding online via search engines. I did nothing but blog, but just because I had content on the blog I had tons of people finding it for free, and as a result, calls out of the blue from people saying “yeah I found your blog, what’s up with your business” (kinda cool)
So let me share a few things you can do to improve you search engine rankings for you blog posts to enhance your free traffic.
First, do a little keyword research using the Google Keyword tool. Find a few keywords related to business and use those keywords in your blog title, and a few times, along with a few synonyms for that main keyword in your blog post.
One secret strategy that’s really increased my blog traffic personally is using images in my blog.
On blog posts where I insert an image to correspond to the blog post keyword I tend to get about double the traffic. So find a few images related to your blog post keyword.
Name those images as your main keyword, for instance if my blog post was based on the keyword “internet network marketing” then then I would find 3 images I could use for that keyword and I would name the images internet-network-marketing1.jpg, internet-network-marketing2.jpg, internet-network-marketing3.jpg etc.
Search engines rank you based on how many other websites link to your post related to your keywords, so when you create a new blog post, write an article with the same keyword and submit it to the major article directories with a link going back to your main blog post.
Find a few other blogs in the niche and comment on a few post and link back to your blog post.
Create a facebook, twitter, myspace, squidoo account and post some content based on the keyword and link those back to your blog post.
You do that for you blog and you’re ahead of 99% of marketers.
So now that we’ve got traffic down, let’s talk about $$$, how do you make money with your blog? I think the simplest way to make money with blog from the outset is to simply add Google Adsense to each blog post, not so much because you’ll make a ton of cash from it, but when people do click on your Google Adsense ads on your blog you’ll make a few bucks which is powerful positive reinforcement for your efforts in the early going.
It’ll fuel you forward. You’ll see money coming in and you’ll get excited.
The best long term way to make money with your blog though is . . .
Integrating your blog with your email marketing efforts. I love using the one two punch of email marketing and blogging because it allows you to change the dynamic of your email messages to your prospects from a one way conversation to a two way conversation by giving your prospects the ability to comment back to you.
Getting people involved and commenting on your blog is a powerful way to build trust. Think of your blog as a conversation and you’ll see the bond between you and your prospects growing stronger daily and for it your income will increase.
There are two powerful benefits of turning your emails into a blog conversation.
The first is simply when people get involved and proactively comment they’ve taking a powerful step into your world. The second benefit is a little more sneaky, but extremely powerful.
Say you send a prospect to your blog to share an important post today and 15 people comment on that post. Great!
Well what if you take the email that you sent people to your blog and add it to your auto responder?
Now the leads that join your list 3 months from now will get that email automatically via your autoresponder email sequence you set up and when they get to the post not only are they going to get to participate in a conversation you set up on autopilot, but they’ll also see all the people that commented prior and say . . .
“Wow! I just got this email and 15 people already comment there must be a lot of people listening in.” and hence conclude you’re a good teacher and someone a LOT of people listen to.
So there’s more I could go into on blogging, but I think that’s plenty for now. If you’d like a complete blueprint on how to use your blog to recruit, let me know below, maybe I’ll put one together, and no matter what you do if you haven’t checked out this free website. Go here now.
But, if you pay attention, my little embarrassing secret might just be one mistake you don’t make, and something that you can use to make your business a more profitable one in the very near future.
The story begins a few years ago. I took a trip to Las Vegas for my Birthday with my “lady friend” Kim. The trip itself was a blast, but the thing I’ll remember forever about that trip was “how” she gave me her present. She got me good . . .
I think that year was the first year that the iPhone hit the market and I kept telling her that I was going to get one, but I never pulled the trigger.
So I remember waking up in our MGM Grand Hotel room and there she was excited to give me her gift. I don’t know how she hid it, but she did.
I remember her going over to her luggage and pulling out a box. Of course, I thought that she had gotten me that iPhone I was so excited about.
She hands me the box. I’m excited. I open it.
It’s a carrying case and some accessories for an iPhone. I’m confused. She says “I know you’ve been talking about getting an iPhone, so I wanted to get you some cool gear to go with it”
Inside I felt disappointed, but outwardly to her I said “Ohh thanks so much.” So I’m opening up my iPhoneless accessories, I check them out for a few minutes, a little sad “She didn’t get it, ohh well” and start planning the day when she hands me another box.
This one was heavier, I open it, and it’s my new iPhone!
Speechless and excited to say the least.
Had she just given it to me right out I would have been excited, but putting me through the ringer made my day. Sometimes it’s not what you get but how you get it.
Anyways, fast forward a few years.
I’ve had my iPhone and it starts to act up. I can no longer hear people who call unless my phone is on speaker phone. Annoying, yes, but I’m not a big phone conversationalist anyways so I don’t bother to get a new phone.
Well, a few weeks back, Kim, out of the blue, decides to take me for my upgrade and buys me one of the 3G iPhones. (I know, I’ve got a pretty cool lady)
And so, now for the embarrassing secret part that’s going to make you money . . .
I get my new iPhone and the cool thing about the new version is you can download apps, and games, and stuff . . .
Took me a week to figure out how to do actually do it (even though it’s simple), but I start downloading all sorts of stuff, and of note there’s a game called “iMob” where the aim is to act like a mobster, make money, beat up other mobsters, etc . . .
It’s one of the THE most downloaded games for the iPhone. So I pick up and start playing it and I’m embarrassed to admit, in the last week I’ve probably wasted 10 hours on this addictive sucker, but that’s not all . . .
I look in the games app store and there’s a new game called “Mafia Wars”. Literally the exact same principles and play as the first game iMob. I download that sucker and waste another 10 hours playing that.
I know, I know, an entrepreneur should be making better use of his time, but sometimes you’ve got to goof off, so here’s why this matters to you.
iMob and Mafia Wars are two of THE Most downloaded games on the iPhone.
Essentially all one company did was do the exact same thing as another. They followed a model that worked, got there name out there, were innovative in the least, and now I’m sure, for it, they have a thriving business (hey I’ve wasted 10 hours on it, I’m sure MANY MANY other people have too.)
To create an almost “instantly profitable business” you’ve really got to create your own product. Why?
Instead of justing buying and calling leads (i.e. flushing your money down the toilet) or using someone else’s funded proposal system (building their business and just getting an affiliate commission in the process) you create a product and for every sale you make you make all the money instantly AND you have an asset.
Take a look at these two scenarios:
Scenario 1: Say you’re using someone else’s system and for every 100 leads you spend $100 and generate five sales, even if you’re getting a $20 commission per sale and breaking even, which ain’t bad you’ve still got to wait for them to send you a check before you can use that money again.
Scenario 2: You create your own product, you set the price, say it’s $97, you spend $100 to get 100 leads, even if you only make 3 sales instead of five you’ve now made your money back plus $200 profit, got 3 customers of your own (far superior to having someone buy someone else’s system) and you’ve gotten 100 leads at $2 profit per lead.
Which sounds like a better situation to you?
I’ve told this to several people, to which they always respond “I don’t know what to create a product about” to which I reply create a product based on what your customers want. Look at what others are selling and make your own version of it.
Advantage = speed and no risk. But, some people think they’ve got to be totally unique which is 100% WRONG! (i.e. Mafia Wars vs. iMob)
The Mafia Wars creators didn’t go out and test and test and test until they got a unique game. They just looked at what was getting a lot of market share and created their own version. SMART.
Your customers don’t care about you being unique. They don’t want you or the competitor. They want the information to serve their goals or help solve their problem.
If you’re hungry driving down the highway and you see a burger joint do you care if it’s McDonalds or Burger King? No, if you’re hungry enough you go eat and so do your customers.
Only question is, will you be the one to serve them their meal? Don’t try to be unique. Serve people what they want and you have the makings of an instantly successful business. Here’s your roadmap to doing just that.
All I will say about this is, this video has been viewed 42,000,000 in the last day or so. Imagine that happening by simple submitting a simple video to YouTube. A few days ago on an “MLM Underground” call I fell into a trance. 40 minutes passed as if it were only 2 or 3. (I get like that sometimes when I get into the groove) . . .
At the end of the call, I opened up the lines for questions, and person after person stepped up the the mic NOT with questions, but with praise for what I had fallen into a self induced trance to share.
Today, amidst the confusion, endless options of what you could possibly spend your time doing in your business, spinning your wheels, in this day where everyone screams and yells “I’ve got the secret to recruiting” I’m not going to be discussing how to do that, rather . . .
I’m going to take a step back to introduce a topic that if you just take a few short minutes to pay close attention to it WILL be a game changer for you and your business.
It will be one of those defining moments where you say “NOW I FINALLY GET IT”, and off you’ll go, a few months down the road your business will finally start making you money the way you’d always expected it to, daily and consistently.
When that day comes, you’ll feel a cool calm come over you and that little voice in your head will say “I’ve arrived”, worry about bills will soon fade, whether or not you get a pink slip won’t matter anymore. In fact, the funny thing is, you won’t ever worry about why your “new recruit” isn’t doing anything. No more stress. Total freedom.
Why? You’ll finally have complete business serenity and security. Wouldn’t that feel good to just know that no matter what happens, financially you’re on rock solid ground today, tomorrow, and into the foreseeable future?
What I’m going to discuss is YOUR game changer.
How you will rise above. For me it’s meant being able to do things like get more online exposure than my entire home business with 10,000s of reps as a one man show sitting in a small 10X10 office here just five minutes from the capital in Washington DC.
And the secret’s just that. When you know how to get more exposure than your entire company you win. Recruiting is easy and things just roll . . .
So how? Amidst all the possible options, there are only a few that matter. I learned this a few years back and changed my business to reflect what I’m about to share. It’s not about the latest greatest.
If you make your business about these two simple concepts I’m about to share you always win, now and long term. So, whether you have time now or later, find a few minutes to review this simple truth.
If you want long term business security it’s NOT about recruits, it’s about two things:
1. Leverage 2. Stability
Archimedes said “Give me a lever long enough and I can move the earth” Nothing more true . . .
Leverage is the ability to move large masses with a small force. You make your business about leverage, you do little, big things move.
Stability, stability tempers leverage. And it should be thought of not as a term but rather as a question when applying it to your business. “How can I create the most leverage possible in my business in the MOST stable way?”
You find the answer to that and you don’t move the earth once, you move it whenever you want. Leverage and stability is all that matters.
Here’s how this applies to your business:
Business is not easy. It’s not join and get rich. But, it ain’t hard either.
You focus on creating leverage and stability not by “trying to stay ahead of the jone’s”, but by keeping things simple. Once you’ve got this formula you’ll find “leverage creates stability and stability creates leverage” they work synergistically and that’s the true “magic”, so here are your ingredients for “magic” making:
Leads - the more you get the bigger your audience, the farther your message and influence reaches.
Relationship - the better your relationship the more trust your audience has in your message.
Profits - money makes the world go around. The more you make, the more leads you can get, the better the relationships you can forge, and back full circle the more money you will make.
Leads, relationship, and profits = leverage and stability
Do you see how simple that is?
What if you got good at one way to get leads and you could put that on semi autopilot?
One day, like I’ve experienced, you could be sitting on the Caldera Island of Santorini Greece, pull into an internet cafe and see you’ve gotten 2700+ leads that day while exploring a volcano and having a few beers while watching the sunset.
What if you had a simple system for developing relationships. Giving true value in a HIGHLY leveraged manner while leads flow endlessly into your business. Simply system? “An email a day keeps the job away”
What if because of that semi automated lead system you have bringing you leads and your simple relationship system your prospects grow to value you and start “finding” ways to get into your more immediate circle of influence?
Sounds like recruits and profit to me . . .
Why not just do that?
Simplicity makes for a sound business and a calm and serene mind. A sense of stability, and security. Isn’t that what this is all about? (It is for me)
Before I end this lesson and ask you to share your feedback, I have one footnote to add.
Just because I say simple I don’t mean be lazy.
You gotta be aggressive about your success. Aggressively get leads, aggressively forge lifelong relationships, aggressively profit, and you create MAXIMUM LEVERAGE and lifelong stability.
There ain’t no half assin it. You go. You do. You thrive.
I’ll have more to share on this topic in the near future - it’s a message and abundance philosophy I hold dear because it’s given me the gift of freedom and I don’t see spoken to “correctly amongst the hype” - so best be sure I’m gonna be elaborating on this soon (a little surprise is on the way)
Let me end by asking you a question: Do you see why recruiting is easy when you make your business about these two simple things?
Instead of trying to out technology “beat the jone’s” in recruiting why not CREATE a situation where recruiting is simple, requires no effort, and is guaranteed?
If you’ve got 100,000 friends and 100 spots you want to fill on your team do you think you could do it? I think you could, and that’s really what I’m getting at. It’s the core philosophy in this simple free blueprint I urge you pick up by going to this free website.

P.S. I eagerly await your comments below. (I really do sit by the computer to check each comment personally, don’t disappoint . . .)
I gotta be honest with you. I”m not sold on the “hype”.
And I’m not coming from a non informed position. I’ve had great friend and successful marketers lament about how great twitter is. How they’ve sent out one Tweet and generated many leads for a few seconds of effort.
I’ve bought about just about every products that’s come out on twitter to inform myself on how to use it, and how other’s are using it.
BTW: If you don’t know what twitter is, it’s kinda like this blog, except you can only type 140 characters for each message. It’s called “micro blogging”. You can sign up for an account in a few second, start following people, in an attempt to have them follow you back to increase your exposure online and open you up to new markets.
All that’s well and good, and it sells.
Anything easy money and that’s completely free to get involved in sells. So, it’s no surprise that everyone coming out with the “I’ve cracked the code to twitter marketing” products are coming out of the wood works.
They’re just being good marketers. Where ever there is great curiosity, buzz, it’s simple to understand and use, there are going to be people who HYPE it up, and sell you on it being the next best thing in the world, and they’re smart for doing it from a profit standpoint. People will buy.
The reason I haven’t said a ton about twitter and social media personally is my own personal way of thinking about business.
Me, I think in terms of leverage and stability, and although there is a great argument for leverage in the USE of twitter, I’m not sold on the long term viability of the thing.
Not that I don’t think it will be around, but I think back to Myspace, no one’s really using it anymore. Why? It got trashy, filled with spammers, and lost it’s value. Up came Facebook.
Twitter is even simpler. Who’s to say a bigger better Twitter might come along? What happens to all the time you spend on Twitter?
And specifically . . .
I’m not sold on it in the home business space. Anyone that’s got a Twitter account can attest to how much spam goes out. Many many people’s profiles are filled with nothing but buy this buy that and twitter’s cool with it.
It’s like safelists and traffic exchanges all over again = permission spam.
I’m not saying don’t use Twitter, I’m just saying don’t spend all your time trying to grow your business solely with Twitter.
There’s potential for success no doubt, but at this point I’ve only seen it in spurts or by people selling you how to use twitter to get followers.
Now, there are few great things I do like about twitter . . .
You can find good quality “lead” in a quasi targeted manner and you can develop some great good “micro” friendships there.
You can get in contact with busy professionals and have short conversations and set up appointments.
A few weeks ago, I was on the way to a private mastermind meeting and Perry Marshall (The Google Adwords Guy) was going to the same meeting I Tweeted him to see if he was gonna be there for some Bad Ass Texas BBQ at Kreutz’s (probably spelled wrong) and few minutes later he said “I’ll see ya there”
That’s what Twitter is good at. Creating and having “micro” conversations.
What I fear is people are wasting their time thinking Twitter is going to make them rich. A few leads, maybe a recruit or two, but a full scale business - No.
And it’s the time factor that’s most alarming to me.
Just last week I spoke with a home business marketer and I asked him what he was doing to promote his business. He said “he was on twitter and using traffic exchanges”
That’s just not a good use of time.
If you want to use free media to grow your business, start a blog, write articles, create videos, but twitter ain’t it (in my opinion)
Most of what I see in terms of information about how to use twitter is “scheme like” at best.
“Use this tool to auto follow people, use this other tool to auto post stuff, use this other tool to unfollow people, etc”
And that’s not business building. That’s scheming. And it’s really NOT a way to add value.
I have yet to see a guide say something like . . .
Since Twitter is micro blogging, why not search out other blogs in your niche who’s publishers have twitter accounts, follow them, check their blog for new content and when they put out a new article lead a value added comment, and then tweet the article and your comment.
Maybe even direct message the blogger to let him know about your comment and tweet about his article.
Do this consistently with 20 0r 30 bloggers, and what’s going to happen?
You’ll create real relationships . . .
Why not next start your own blog and every now and then DM the other bloggers to comment and tweet you back to their circles of influences about their comment on your blog.
Now you’re leveraging their credibility with their follower base. You’re adding value to them first, and then your asking for a little reciprocation.
What happens?
You’re circle of influences grows in a meaningful way and so does theirs. You create hundreds of links back to your sites via your comments on the other blogger’s blog and their tweets.
Over time you’ll make some friends who will comment and add value to your blog and create links back to your via twitter in their circle of influence.
See that makes sense to me.
Not auto follow, auto unfollow, and blast your ad.
Bottom line is, I’m not totally sold on twitter, and I know I’m about to hear from more than a few people who think that I’m wrong, so . . .
My advice is simple, if you do use twitter as a lead generation method, just think of how you can add true and sustainable value first.
Bottom line is, always think in terms of leverage and stability and your business will grow. It’s really that simple.
If you’re unsure how to formulate a plan to build a business in leverage that becomes highly profitable and stable over time here’s how I do it every time.
The first time I figured this out, I not only created an income stream that’s still flowing strong today, but it got me out of my job, afforded me the opportunity to take my younger brother on a trip to Japan as a high school graduation gift to him, and now because I don’t work I get to go hang out at my grandparents house anytime I want.
Nothing fancy, just a stable and free lifestyle following a simple plan. Isn’t that really what all this mumbo jumbo’s about anyways?
