I was driving home from grabbing a bite to
eat at good old Taco Bell last night, while
doing that I was listening to a new training
series I picked up on direct marketing and
well . . .
The guy was talking about free ways to drive
traffic online from offline and one of the
techniques he brought conjured up one of the
most embarrassing moments in my home business
career.
I started laughing out loud and shaking my
head in shame for what I once did. I was
sitting a stop light and the guy in the car
next to must have thought I was crazy.
If ever you think you’ve done something dumb
in the name of your business good old Daegan
been there too.
See, back when I knew nothing more effective
to do than buy and call leads I started to
grow restless for my lack of progress and
growing credit card debt. I figured I was
gonna take a stand.
If no one was going to teach me anything
better to do I’d do it myself. What did do?
Well it started with a Google search for how
to generate leads. I came a page that talked
about using “drop cards” to bring in the
leads.
I looked great. Testimonials of people
handing out these little business card sized
ads getting massive results. If they could do
it then so could I do.
I marched my silly butt down to Kinko and
printed up a few thousand of these neon green
suckers. They said “Looking for additional
income? - followed with my website.”
The price was about $200 bucks which was
quite a spend for me back in those days, but
I again went ahead and put in on the card.
Two days later I had my “drop cards” ready to
start bringing in the recruits. I started
placing them on car windows in my
neighborhood with excitement of the flood of
leads to come.
Two hours later . . .
200 drop card blowing the breeze. When I took
the train downtown I would leave a few
behind, I don’t think a sole looked at those
things . . .
The embarrassing part is, I just opened my
closet a couple minutes ago and there where
the remaining 1500 of those suckers starring
me the face reminding me of grand past.
Desperation drives you to do strange things.
If you think I haven’t tried all that crazy
stuff that doing work a lick, if you think I
was born with a silver spoon, ohh how wrong
you are.
What a looser, but at least I can take solace
in the fact that I tried. I didn’t have the
guidance I need, but sure enough I wasn’t
giving up.
When people ask me why I would give away the
exact resources I use to drive traffic to my
website right now. The answer is simple . . .
I remember being out there with the drive and
not the direction. I remember feeling lost,
alone, silly, frustrated, and plain out dumb.
I remember second guessing myself - “I must
be smarter than this? Why I can’t I make it
work if it’s so easy and duplicable?” and I
remember having no one really to turn to and
how isolated that was.
And well . . . I don’t want you to have to go
through that part of the success curve like I
did. In fact, I’d like to leapfrog you to the
good part as fast as I can. Why? Because
that’s what I wish someone would have done
for me.
The spots in my special little insiders club
are dwindling. Now that you my WHY behind it
maybe that’ll shed some new light on things
for you.
To make it simple. I’ve been at the bottom
embarrassing myself and it sucks. I don’t
want you to have the same story. Go here now
and let’s leapfrog the embarrassing stuff:

why hesitate let’s get the show on the road:

Today I have a funny story to share, as you
can probably guess by the subject line (after
all, who on earth in their right mind would
turn down THE best crab cakes on earth?) and
an important marketing lesson so listen
closely . . .
Not to long ago I decided it was time to go
out to eat the best crab cakes on the planet
earth again.
I hadn’t had them in a least six month and I
felt a deep chasm in my life because of it.
Quick on my toes, I decide it was time to
right this recent wrong.
Growing up in Washington DC area you learn to
appreciate the finer things in life, and I
could, at that moment, think of nothing finer
than some freaking amazing crab cakes.
I put on my shoes and gave my lady friend and
call and it was a done deal, or so I thought
. . .
It was time for a night on the town featuring
the best crab cakes known to man and by the
time I arrived at the house of this 9th wonder
of the world I could almost taste those suckers.
It was about to be crab cake eating time in a
huge way until . . .
It happened.
I saw the menu. My eyes trained, my stomach
ready, and my hands shaking with anticipation
for you know what, but something strange
happened.
I lost focus for a second and that’s when I
saw it. The ONE thing, the ONLY thing on
earth that could make me turn down what I had
made my entire night about.
What was it?
Something even better, something I saw and
immediately had to have. Right there on the
menu I saw it my own eyes. “King Crab Legs”
directly from my the Discovery channels “The
Deadliest Catch” . . . And then even right
there on the menu said exactly which ship
they came from. It was the “Time Bandit”
And well, I love the “Deadliest Catch”, I
don’t watch much TV, but if I sit down and
this show is on I’m most likely not moving
until it’s over. To me, this was a once in a
lifetime opportunity.
In mind I said “When in life am I ever again
going to get the chance to eat my favorite TV
show?”, and so I did the unthinkable.
I turned down the best crab cakes on earth
for a once in a lifetime experience. And
guess what? Those King Crab Legs weren’t
cheap. Those sucker were the most expensive
thing on the menu.
Now they were great crab legs, but the best
crab cakes on the planet they were not.
If you asked my if I do it again I would do
it in a heartbeat and here’s why . . .
This is where the marketing lesson comes
into play:
I made the decision to forgo a known best in
my life for something new ONLY because it was
related to something of celebrity status. In
other words, had those king crab legs been
just some crab legs no way I’m giving up the
best darn crab cakes ever, but because they
were I did.
The restaurant was very smart for giving such
a descriptive piece on this menu item. I’m
sure they sold the heck out of the suckers
all night long because they were MORE than
just some item, they were special.
So, in your business, never ever
underestimate the power of a celebrity
endorsement. I’ve seen businesses built
solely on them. Think about the “Foreman
Grill” for a second . . .
Now it network marketing or online business
celebrity endorsement work a little
different, but can have the same exact power
for you. When I first started to grow a large
team I emailed the CEO and asked for a
testimonial. Didn’t know if I’d get one, but
I did.
Now think about this . . .
A prospect see’s you and see’s the CEO
endorsing you. Who’s going to get the
recruit - You or the guy without the celebrity
status?
Think deeply on how you can get or
manufacture the same in your business and
you’ll have a completely unfair advantage.
(Didn’t think I could turn crab cakes into
network marketing did you?)

(My ugly mug & famous “Deadliest Catch” King Crab)
But to honest here . . . Would you have gone
for the crab cakes or the meal you can brag
to your friends about?
Share your thoughts below . . .

It’s amazing what there is out there online
in terms of information. I’m headed off to
the ncaa championships for wrestling in a few
days and I decided I would go check out some
old wrestling matches on YouTube.
A few minutes turned into hours, video after
video, man it was good stuff.
One thing I notices was, there was literally
chronicles of some of the best college
wrestlers out there.
You could literally scroll back to see some
of their biggest loses as youngsters, then
fast forward a few years to see how those
once flaws were turned into their greatest
strengths.
The same thing happens in your business. You
fail big a first and sometimes it hurts, but
as you keep pushing with your goal in sight
you find new ways to turn those flaws into
your greatest opportunities.
If making $$$ in your business is now a
problem, here’s the first step towards it
becoming your greatest asset.

How Do I Start On A Shoestring Budget?
Here’s our fourth installment of this month’s
question answer session!
Ok Daegan
I’m game…I’ve watched one Yanik video too
many, If you were starting over in your
business today and you had a $500 budget, but
no list, no contacts, no ebook, no name, and
3 hours a day free to devote to your business
(pretty much where our prospects are), what
step by step action would you take daily to
make a promotion in the next 30 days?
Where would you devote your resources?
Would you give more attention to blogs or
forums or Traffic Swarm or ezines or
something else?
-Carlos Scarpero
Carlos,
Again, I’m being fed great questions which
help get right to the heart of matters and
I’m more than happy to oblige.
Your question mirrors the exact circumstance
that I was confronted with when I first found
my most recent network marketing opportunity.
Instead of telling you what I WOULD do I can
tell you exactly what I did.
This should help enlighten quite a few
issues.
The first thing I did when I began marketing
my business:
I guess I should start prior to first thing I
did, because it was actually the steps that I
took before I actually began my promotion
that set me up for HUGE success online.
Before actually beginning marketing of my
business I had to be sure all my eyes were
dotted and tees crossed.
What do I mean?
I made sure I had a powerful marketing
system.
To make things simple and not to rehash this
concept you should be sure that whatever
business you join has one.
If not I STRONGLY suggest you create one.
You can start simply . . .
You system should include:
Lead Capture Page Automated Email Follow Up
For All Leads Direct Marketing Style Sales
Page
When I came across my business it had all
things in place.
Why is this important?
As the great Myron Golden says:
“What you lack in skill you can make up for
in leverage.”
Well I lacked skill in recruiting via peer to
peer contact in a BIG way.
Having a system in place before marketing
afforded me the leverage to have a sale
process in place that was concise and easily
duplicable.
So I did my homework.
(If I had not found such a system I would
have taken the time to create one.)
After finding a business with the proper
tools the next thing that I needed to do was
test.
The first place I went to test this system
was actually a forum online called the
Warrior Forum.
In that forum one of the members was allowing
solo mailings to his mailing list for $60 a
piece.
I did a test with one of these list.
The mailing brought in my first 12 sign ups.
If it works you do it again.
With a little tweaking of the ad copy I did
another mailing to this same list.
The results were 24 MORE new sign ups.
So . . .
I knew the system worked at this point.
The next step was to try different medians
for further proof.
I moved into PPC marketing and Forum
marketing.
I began a campaign with Google Adwords in
which I choose 700+ keywords to advertise
with at a cost per click of around $.20.
The results.
The next day I had spent $14 and from that
spend I generate 14 leads and 1 new sign up.
This system worked so I left it in place and
moved on to forum marketing and more robust
newsletter marketing.
For the newsletter marketing I turned to the
Directory of Ezines
And for the forums I choose 4 forums.
2 were internet marketing related and the
other 2 were network marketing related.
I posted to these forums 2 to 3 times a day
for the period of a week.
This activity generated 5 new sign ups in the
business.
With these results what I do I think you
should do first?
Newsletter marketing will bring you the
biggest bang for your buck, but it’s also the
most risk.
So I would test my system with newsletter
marketing via a solo ad.
Once marketability is confirmed I would then
move to PPC marketing and test there.
Finally I would go to forums and strike up a
few conversation and see how that works.
You’ll get good marketing data and you’ll be
able to scale your further promotions from
these initial results.
To take your marketing to the next level all
you will simply need to do is take these
success and do them on a larger scale
tracking your success ever step of the way.
To increase your rank in your company once
you get some personal momentum going you need
to do is relay ALL of your success back to
your team in an exact and precise fashion.
Those that are highly motivated will turn
around and duplicate.

This morning I was reviewing my success
library and thinking about some of the
lessons I’ve learned over the years about
marketing and success, and there is one
lesson that I believe goes under stated
more than any other, once you latch onto this
you’ll be able to take anything you learn and
create success out of it.
Read closely . . .
I remember getting a question about a year
ago from a young lady who was excited and
anxious to start her business online. She
brought up that she didn’t know how to create
webpages and that that was one of the biggest
things holding her back.
My advice was simple . . .
Either learn how to do it yourself of hire
someone who can do it for you.
She took this advice and immediately enrolled
in an html and web design class.
Over the course of time I’ve gotten similar
question to this:
“I want to do this, but I don’t know how to
do that.” - You can fill in the blanks with
just about anything.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the
same sort of issue come up in my own
business. I’ll get the plan and understand it
all, but there’s one small area that I’m not
totally sure on and it’s at that point I’ll
catch myself. (Sooner these days than in the
past.)
The answer is, go test and see what happens,
but the natural tendency will be to look for
the answer out there online or in some other
book or text.
Why?
It’s easier, and it delays the part of the
process where you actively have to do
something. (So in the past, searching for
the answer let me be lazy, but think I was
working.)
Whatever the gaps in your plan is, once
you have the game plan like this.
The answer is not to waste time trying to
figure it all out, the RIGHT answer is to get
out there and test and let your results
fill in the missing pieces.
You’ll find yourself succeeding faster,
learning more about marketing than you could
ever imagine, and most importantly, becoming
highly self sufficient in your thoughts and
actions in your business once you embrace
this mindset.
Get the information, but don’t let the things
you don’t understand fully stop you from
getting started. Trust that your results will
teach you more - quicker than trying to work it
all out in your head first ever will.

What Came First?
I was having a discussion with one of my new
mlm team members yesterday and I am always
amazed by the questions that people ask me.
They are always the same questions that I had
before I figured how to do this network
marketing thing the smart way.
Well this young lady by the name of Dorothy
Garner asked me a question that I think many
many people wonder about and I think you all
will like the answer to here question.
She asked . . .
“What came first the eBook or the network
marketing success?”
The answer to this question is interesting
because I always wondered about this myself
before figuring things out. I would asked .
.. “Did those guys that had all guide on
network marketing success achieve success
before the book or was the book their
success?”
Well I don’t know about all those other guys,
but in my case the success came first.
I found a business that was positioned
correctly for my business model then I did
some marketing tests which turned out to be
very successful and then in that initial
excitement I want to ensure that my team was
able to duplicate my success, so I wrote a
marketing guide discussing all the things I
had used to be successful.
After that, and getting many many compliments
on it, I decided to create an actual info
product for the general public.
The truth is the methods I teach will work
for any network marketer in any business. The
template is layed out. All that anyone has to
do is just follow it to a tee and they will
experience the same success I did.
Why?
The internet is neutral so the sale is made
in the mind of the prospect.
What I mean is - I don’t ever buy anything
online because anyone told me to. I do it
because I decide I want whatever the product
or service is and so do you.
Could someone create a product or service to
market before having success in business?
Probably . . .
But I don’t think anyone should market any
sort of “how to” guide that they create
unless it directly reflects that person’s
personal success and experience.
So that’s the answer - The success came
before the product.
It goes like this . . .
Education => Success => Infoproduct NOT the
other way around!

It’s an ugly day here in Washington DC.
It’s cold and raining, it’s just one of those
days where you wake up and look out the
window and just want to roll over in bed and
go back to sleep.
On the business front, I’ve had the same type
of days and maybe you have too.
Nothing’s going right, I’m getting rejected,
and I’m paying for the abuse. It got so hard
sometimes that I wanted to just give up, run
and hide, and just forget about it all.
So today I want to share something with you
that helps me get through even the roughest
of weather.
There are those times in your business that
no matter how are you press forward it seems
like life pushes you two steps back. You just
can’t get a break, and no matter how hard you
“dream build” nothing works.
And there’s that point where you hit the
glass sealing. Meaning, you’re pulling people
into your business, but no matter how hard
you try your overall team size just doesn’t
grow. It’s like you’re income gets capped at
a certain level and there’s nothing you can
do get past it.
If you’ve been in the industry for a while
and you’ve achieved some success you know
what I’m talking about. If you’re new, there
will be a period of time in your business
that could stretch for months where the
recruits are coming in but the income isn’t
growing.
It’s one of the most frustrating things I’ve
ever experienced, but I was able to break
past that point. Here’s how . . .
The most important breakthrough I had was:
I was thinking about my business the wrong
way.
I would repeat “I want a team of 5,000 people
by the end of the year” and I put all I had
into doing it.
The problem with this way of thinking about
your business is that it’s NOT an immediately
tangible goal to set. It’s one the reasons why
whenever I hear a new recruit tell me that
they’re going to earning $5,000 per month their
first month the moment they step into the
business I make them explain to me how.
If you’re new how can you know that you
achieve this?
The answer I normally get is, “Well I’m just
gonna do it.”
Good, but not good enough. You need to know
exactly HOW you’re going to get there. So the
place you have to begin is with realistic
expectations. If you’re new you can’t set
realistic expectations without help.
This is where having an experienced leader in
the team helps. You have to break the process
down to basics. You have to know the numbers
and be realistic about them.
Don’t start with the income when you set
expectations. You start with getting a single
lead. Once you know what it takes to get a
lead, you can move on to experiencing what it
takes to get a recruit.
Once you know what it takes to get a recruit
you can then start to talk about income. But
before you know the effort to be exerted to
get this far there is no way you can talk
about money.
It’s like me saying I’m going to make
$2,000,000 in the coffee industry this year
without knowing a thing about coffee. I can
say what I want, but unless I know the
mechanics behind how that income goal is
achieved I’m just playing in the world of
fantasy.
Fantasy’s and dreams are great, but the magic
happens when we can take those dreams and
attach a REAL experienced based process to
get there, so experience is necessary.
So, I’ve said a lot so far . . .
I want to bring this all back to how I’ve
used this principle to break through that
invisible glass sealing and how you can too.
You start small.
I knew that at that point I was generating
about 10 new sign ups a day, so instead of
jumping to a team of 5,000+ I took my
expectations back to reality and dealt with
what I knew.
I knew I could get 10 recruits a day and
there were opportunities I wasn’t exploiting
fully, so, if I put as much of what I was doing
at that point on autopilot and put my focus
into the unexploited opportunities I could
realistically increase my recruits per day to
12 by the end of the month.
I did.
Then came the point where I took it to 14 and
beyond, and now I have a team of 7100+ plus.
At this point I just quit counting it all,
but I got there by looking at where I was and
used that to set realistic new DAILY goals,
and held myself accountable to them.
If you break things down to daily goals it
becomes tangible and doable, and that’s where
you want to play.
These days I still do this, but more on an
income basis. Instead of saying I want to
make $1.4 million dollars this year, I think
about this question?
What can I do to increase my income by $300 a
day this month?
12 months of that and that’s an income
increase of $3600 per day. And for me, at
this point, thinking about $300 per day
increases is a lot easier, trackable, and
doable on a daily basis.
You want to set realistic baby step increases
in your business daily goals, track them,
course correct, and then take the next step.
That’s the best I’ve found to consistently
increase productivity in a controlled
fashion, and if you follow along you’ll find
the same will work for you.
Dream big, but brings those dreams back down
to daily goals.
To the top,
Daegan

at that point on autopilot and put my focus
into the unexploited opportunities I could
realistically increase my recruits per day to
12 by the end of the month.
I did.
Then came the point where I took it to 14 and
beyond, and now I have a team of 7100+ plus.
At this point I just quit counting it all,
but I got there by looking at where I was and
used that to set realistic new DAILY goals,
and held myself accountable to them.
If you break things down to daily goals it
becomes tangible and doable, and that’s where
you want to play.
These days I still do this, but more on an
income basis. Instead of saying I want to
make $1.4 million dollars this year, I think
about this question?
What can I do to increase my income by $300 a
day this month?
12 months of that and that’s an income
increase of $3600 per day. And for me, at
this point, thinking about $300 per day
increases is a lot easier, trackable, and
doable on a daily basis.
You want to set realistic baby step increases
in your business daily goals, track them,
course correct, and then take the next step.
That’s the best I’ve found to consistently
increase productivity in a controlled
fashion, and if you follow along you’ll find
the same will work for you.
Dream big, but brings those dreams back down
to daily goals.

A few days ago I was having a conversation
with one of my good friends about his
internet network marketing business and he
was a little bit frustrated with his income
level compared to his personal production.
He was frustrated because he expected his
income to be higher based on production and I
know exactly where he was coming from. In
network marketing when you do the math from
the ideal perspective the numbers look like
they should be a lot larger than they are.
It’s partially due to inexperience, and
partially due to being new to business, but
having some consistent success.
Inexperience leads to doing the math in your
business based on what you want it to be
instead of what the numbers show. Until you
can do the math from your success it’s hard
to set the right expectations.
And so one huge mistake I see people make is
looking at the glass empty instead of full to
the brim.
Here’s what I mean . . .
There will come a point in your business
where you know how to create results and they
come in consistently on a personally level,
but you’ll want to start to do the math based
on your company’s compensation structure to
forecast your future profit potential.
What we tend to say here, and I said it, is “If
I can just keep getting X number of people
and if just 50% of them duplicate me in a few
months I’ll be earning Y”
The time passes and your results don’t match
your prospective math and you get
discouraged. You start working a little
less or with a little less energy.
You say to yourself “This isn’t working out
the way I thought it would” and you’re mentally
disappointed.
So you start to cut costs to increase your
income. A few months later your income dips
and you’re further disappointed and you say
“What gives? This should be on autopilot by
now?”
And then little by little the income stream
gets smaller and smaller.
That’s what happens when you look at the
glass half full. I personally choose to look
at the situation from the other perspective,
filled to the brim.
Who cares if you’re earning what you thought
you should, I’m fully grateful I’m making a
dime. Most people online, some 95% of them,
spend and make nothing.
If you’ve got the process down and you’re
earning a partial or full time income from
home throw your arms in the air and scream
“HOOORAHHH!”
The mistake many make at this point, and what
I adviced my good friend against, is slowing
down production and decreasing expenses to
increase net profits.
In the short term it may work, but long term
you’ll lose momentum and profits. The true
path to increase your income is the exact
opposite and it’s extremely counter
intuitive.
Just like those who scream that we’re in a
recession and we all need to cut cost will
lose out in the end if they do, so will you
and I. The correct action when you want to
increase income long term is to increase
production now and always think globally and
long term.
It’s not so much about right now, and how bad
or good things are, it’s about how good
things will get in the future.
You always want to hedge your bet for
tomorrow. The RIGHT reaction for a slump or less
than expected results is the pointed increase
of productivity in terms of personal out put
and ad spends.
This reaction my decrease net profits now,
but it will increase recruits, and income
long term and that’s what you’re really after
- long term consistent growth.
What you’ll read out there online is that
magically you’ll make money for nothing, but
that ain’t reality my friend.
Online business is still business, the more
you spend the more you make now and later.
Instead of thinking how little you can spend
on a lead or a recruit think how MUCH you
can.
Once you get your mind thinking down that
path you’ll find you’re playing in the realm of
the big dogs.
If you start to think about how MUCH you can
spend on a lead or recruit you have to think
about the overall profitability of your
business which is more important than income
right now.
To increase the probability of your business
being around long term start thinking about
how you can pay more, do more now, and
engineer your business so that you can do so
and you’ll find yourself with an unfair
advantage in the marketplace.
If you can spend more on leads than your
competition you dominate flat out. You’ll
pull leads and recruits out of place they
could never think about and because of it
your business thrives and their business
hangs on thread.
I know this is an advanced discussion and may
challenge some of the ideas you thought were
the path to online success, so I urge you to
read through this message more than once to
really get the gist.
