You’ve Been Ripped Off Again (This Time By A Crack Head)

Have you been ripped off lately? I have and
if you follow along I’ll share all the
gruesome details so this never happens to
you.

Now, before I tell you what I’m about to tell
you understand I’m telling you this for two
reason.

First, I got a couple posts by people scared
to death about being ripped off, so I want to
open a open debate on the topic. (So make sure
you leave your gut reactions after reading.)

Second, I want you to bear in mind this story
that I’m about share with you, probably isn’t
PG, and it’s coming from a guy who’s spent
$300,000 plus or minus $30,000 on information
to make over $3,000,0000 (So it comes with
a fair amount of perspective on the situation
at hand.)

So let’s get to it.

After reading the comments on the blog here
about people scared to death about being
ripped off I was forced to ask myself “What
is getting ripped off anyways?”

Let me know if you think this is getting
ripped off, or if I’m way off base here:

A few years back as a naïve young man I decided
to begin my wealth building adventure in real
estate.

I saved my money and joined a special program
here in DC to help first time home buyers get
into their first property with only $5,000
down.

After going through the program for a year I
had saved my money and found a perfect little
four unit apartment building to start my
empire.

I still own this property to this day. Now to
the rip off part . . .

In the time that I’ve owned that property
I’ve unknowingly rented units to 3 separate
crack heads.

ripped off by a crack head

Now, before you call me stupid (I’ll agree
with you - I’m a little too trusting), but
let me tell you this from first hand
experience, a crack head doesn’t always come
out and just tell you they smoke rocks right
off the back.

ripped off crack head

They’re kinda sneaky.

As you would imagine, you’ve got to find out
the hard way. For me, I always think the best
of people and will deny what may appear as
less than savory.

I found out when they stopped paying rent. In
each case I ended up spending more than
$5,000 to repair the situation and spent
months trying to get them out of my property.

You’d think you’re state government would be
on your side in these issues, but alas they
are not.

Anyways . . .

Each time I rented to a crack head I felt
betrayed. I felt ripped off by them and laws
pertaining to renters rights and my stance on
the other side, but . . .

I rented to crack heads whether I knew it or
not. On some level it was always my fault for this.

crack head rip off

So who’s to blame but dumb old me right?

Now, I’ve bought tons information products,
and my results in network marketing and
online have been far better than my real
estate adventures, and I’ve bought things
that turned out to be less than promised, but
was I ripped off?

I always come back to the idea that at the
end of the day I bought what I bought. I did
it. And had I not and continued on I wouldn’t
have the experience that I have now which I
wouldn’t trade for the world.

Have I taken a few knocks in network
marketing and online? Sure. We all do.

But my questions to you are . . .

Is that worth putting up an wall of fear
to blunt your future success?

Is buying a product online that promises
results and then you don’t get the exact same
results the person in the testimonial got
being ripped off?

Is allowing yourself to be sold into something
you shouldn’t have in retrospect being ripped
off?

What is being ripped off really?

And why are so many people so scared?

If you buy something that doesn’t make
you instantly rich by putting your credit
card on the line does that mean you’re getting
ripped off?

If so? I’ve been ripped off more than anyone
I know, but I still seemed to keep falling for
it, and for some reason my business keeps
growing.

What are your thoughts? I’d like to know what
you think?

To the top,

Daegan

P.S. Why I do I offer a free CD that reveals
the exact path in step by step format to
recruiting at the push of a button and being
able to leave your job for acquiring that
skill? It ain’t cause I’m trying to rip
anyone off, but don’t believe me. Get it and
see.

being ripped off to me means not getting all the information before getting in a situation. yes there offering a service but as a consumer and vendor tere hould be enough respect to be told the truth not coaxed. in ur case u shoulda asked for a down payment and the rent on every 15th on the month that way if they split it’s earlier then the whole month. so it’s a two way street you have to know what your getting into and in social networking you have to do alot of investigating before you join a program and make sure that’s what you want and has a money baack guarntee and see if they are legit with the bbc so riped off to me just means getting coaxed to buy a product with either a lie or a fake promise. but people think they don’t have to work but yes it’s a job and it takes time so mr deagon i to want to help my family out of loosing our home and i’m more into creating a site like yours or working with a site like yours because fortuatnetly for me isopped at $500 but you giv e out alof of good info and i just wish i knew alot more by talking to similar people that are in ur position

  2. Kurt Henninger Says:

I agree Daegan. People are scared to death of getting ripped off. So many people get upset when their $7 or $37 book they bought does not teach them to be rich instantly. I am of the opinion that I spent thousands of dollars on a college education….and it got me a decent paying job. So what if I spend $$ on one book and it doesn’t make me rich? At least I learned what not to get.

People who truly become succesfull are those who have removed themselves from the “victim” mindset and take responsibility for their actions.

  3. Odie Says:

    Hello,

I can understand what you are saying that sometimes you have to get ripped off in order to move up in the game. I have spend money on several marketing tools, but you learn what works and what doesnt. But, what really gets me is that when you meet someone whose established in this field of internet marketing, they always tell you that they were flat broke, down to there last penny, but in reality, we know that they had a credit card to finance there marketing campaigns. I know someone in particular who has done this. Broke is broke. Not having 5-10k on a credit card.

  4. juniques Says:

    Daegan, Good day to ya.
If the result of being “ripped off” produces a great result, i.e you learned a valuable caveat emptor ( let the buyer beware) lesson, are you still “ripped off??”. As most events in life, its your point of view that dominates your thoughts and thoughts process. Yes, I have “went for it!!!!” threw caution to the wind and joined, signed up, recommended, purchased, recruited, moved on “blind faith”, confessed, persuaded others, defended unknown company management, and you get it. Yes, some of the experience was as tasty as a mildrewed wash cloth ( yuk! ). However, lesson learned. Sometimes, not learned completely and I had to take a “refresher” course i.e I can not believe you let that happen again!!!! LOL, believe u me, at the time, I was making these fantastic moves, you could not have proved me wrong, especially since, I only sought advice, counsel, recommendations AFTER the fact.
You see I learned long time ago, never argue with yourself, for you always “win” the argument.
I operated in an ‘information vacuum’. I have gotten better ( I am still in rehab LOL ).
I listening to more learned counsel now ( I am reading your info and acting on it).
I still have much more to learn ( at 57 I better get a move on!!! ).
Oh yes, I too have dealt with real crack heads, in the end, it your head that gets cracked.

    Networkingly yours,
    Rickey ( www.juniques.us )

  5. Chuck Marx Says:

Getting ‘ripped off’ is buying a ’sure thing’ network marketing program online, and IF after making
the purchase with your credit card the webhost or whomever you bought the program FROM, either
goes out of business, (doesn’t really exist) or is nowhere to be found. Phone numbers don’t exist or are disconnected. The website is taken down (*bogus) and I’m left ‘holding the bag’ of NOTHING !! No website. No contact for support. No NOTHING. Daegan, THAT’S getting ‘ripped off’. To ME, This
is REALLY getting ripped off !! - No Upline. No Downline. Not a Damn Thing.

  6. James Murphy Says:

Fear is good if the result is some degree of caution. Fear resulting in paralysis can lead to being eaten by some large predator or being trampled by some group in a hurry to get somewhere else. Fear is a healthy state of mind. . .appropriateness of your response is usually measured afterward by your survival (or lack of) to the stimulus. Judging by the population level of the human race, I’d say we are generally doing all right in choosing to act or not. Saying whose source I do not recall:
“Behold the tortise. . .he maketh no progress unless he sticketh out his neck!”

  7. patricia chisholm Says:

please dont ever send me a message about a crack head

  8. pat Says:

Hi Daegan, your right some times we can be our worst enamy but thats not to say that there are some genuin people out there. even ones that cant spell like me.
I come across the sceptics every day but hey I was one of them.

  9. Stan Smith Says:

I honestly have no idea how much I have spent for all of the stuff stored on my hard-drive, but it was a small fortune. If I learned anything from that it is that you absolutely must change your mindset from that of a consumer to that of a marketer. If you think that buying stuff is the answer to making money you are thinking backwards. The first thing I tell people on my marketing team is to lock up their credit card. They think I’m the one that should be locked up, but if they are spending money wastefully they are not going to be able to afford the things they do need to spend money on that will make them money and get even more frustrated.

  10. Sam Apo Says:

    http://earlychildhoodreading method.com
    2 websites are mine.
I’ve been ripped off, yes, and continue subjected still…and have not made a penny yet…
    for 10 years or so.
List building is a disaster. Nothing there works. Classifieds are cheap but no paying results but I still do it…dumb, yes, but one day the light “may” come on…that is all I hope for.
I’ve subscribed to every top guy, who have the same scheme, lure and keep sending out the hooks which I swallow…but not anymore…I do “new” guys, same result but not as braggy.
Yesterday a guy “signed on FREE membership” at Gib Link. If he upgrades to PRO I will have
made my first buck; unfortunately no downline exists to earn off him except he’ll pay for my “$600″
which will earn me monthly if he goes PRO…that’s ‘if”, like maybe…which is hope.
He becomes my list of ONE…I will ask him to join Clickbank’c Affiliate digital program and he can sell my READING METHOD…for $10 each…10X1,000,000 is 10 million. 10X that is $100 million.

    My COMMENT is #2 above.

  12. Lucy C. Goodman Says:

Hi Daegan. Risk is part of living day to day. If you do not take risks you do not move on. Yes, I guess I have been “ripped off” a few times. I prefer to look at these instances as learning situations. I do believe that using all your energy being angry and fearful, you’ll get stuck in that groove. For many years I worked in a large downtown firm law office. Every assistant had to constantly watch her back. It was really the survival of the fittest. I learned a lot about survival. I have pretty good instincts about people, however, I’ve been proven wrong. I just go along mumbling nasty things to myself for a while and then get on with it. Most people I have dealt with in the internet marketing business have been honest. You do get what you pay for and I do believe the saying that if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Learning is an ongoing process. I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong and then “getting on with it”. Life is too short. But it definitely is full of surprises! And I intend to get something right in the end and learn the many HOWS and make money as a result of it. PS I love the graphics that accompany a lot of your material. Lucy

  13. David Burkhardt Says:

I also agree Daegan. Alot of people are very afaid of being ripped off Some people will invest there last ten to twenty dollars that they have for the week hoping they will make some kind of money online. And then just get ripped off this has happened to me also. Now with the Economy being messed up people are more afraid. Daegan when you got ripped off by crackheads that’s why I am very much afaid to invest in Real Estate. I know I am a skeptic when it comes to programs on the net.

  14. LT Says:

You seem like a realist!! From the books and from ALL the webpages I’ve read, you’ve given a plethora of infomation and your messages make u say Hmm… Compiling the webpages together as each one give a little more info about what you are actually purchasing which is information on “how to” make money with an automated system. It seems like the system has been duplicated over and over with a different price at the end. And YES, I’ve been ripped off before, who hasn’t. Do I Really want to take the risk? Yes! (sounds like a but coming) BUT, from the information i’ve gathered you need about $1000.00-$1500.00 of capital to start to purchase the adwords, monthly fees and web-hosting just to name a few. Am I wrong, if not give me more info. Because i’m tired of being a robot for these employers, you go to work to do a great job and they don’t really give a F***!! Every state is an AT-WILL state so they fire you when they want too. I’m tired of being controlled, I want total control of my income so my family can live better. It’s not about me… it’s always been about my family. Now I hope that piece of meat is not too tough for you to chew on and I know you beleive in your system or you wouldn’t be doing it, and in any business the sucess depends on you. I don’t have time for games so keep keeping it real. OH by the way, thanks for the audio CD it sounds like you did all the hard work now I’d like a visual!! Yeah, I heard that too…(Get it and see!!!) hope to hear from u soon and maybe I’ll see you at the top!! Peace LT

  15. abraham taylor Says:

so is it moral to use a program to get information and then say your not satisfied isn’t that like sending back something before 30 days or something

  16. Mercedes Says:

I AGREE D …. BEING RIP OFF IS WHAT PEOPLE TRIED TO AVOID ….ITS NOTHING WORST THAN GETTIN YOUR IDENTITY STOLED THEN DONT KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT IT ………..

  17. Eddington Says:

I know of people who have lost good thousands of dollars on pursuit for property, what you call real estate in the US, not anywhere near $7. It’s just some kind of absurd mental programming really. Half the time the information you get from these ebooks is quiet useful anyway, it will teach one something I believe.

  18. Lori Says:

I had one guru sell me a system & tell me I could get rich without having a website. His next e-mail told me I couldn’t get rich without a website. So full of shit, I couldn’t believe it.

  19. Sello Says:

    Hi,

We can say we are being ripped off when in fact the person to blame is ourselves. We go on to spend money and never put enough effort into implementation. Put some action in what you bought, a bit of hard work will pay. Take resposibility.

  20. JOYCE Says:

    Mr. Daega,

You are doing a good job. I love every bit of your messages but the truth is that i am unable to raise the shipping money required.

so if u can, please send me a copy of your CD i go through it and apply the magic in it in my MLM business then i will pay you immediately i start earning.

Think about it and get back to me.I will be waiting to hear from you soon.

    Joyce.

  21. John Says:

What a lengthy and prejudicial way to state an obvious, simple truth.
Those don’t look like crackheads, really (you should have at least had one skinny crack prostitute with most of her teeth gone or going, for instance), and the ‘make-up’ didn’t look very realistic either. Even though the point you make is true, it doesn’t look like you know what you are talking about. I’m outta here.

    (Hopefully you’ve learned something)

  22. Sgt Major R Antonio USMC Ret Says:

Well I believe that 99.9% of these so called make money deals are a Bunch of crap, this Rebate Processing what a joke, they have this woman Angelica that gives this big sob story on the website about how she was desperate with 2 kids at Christmas time and then she found this Rebate Processing Job,its a stock pile of crap!! Because I have seen this same woman on 4-5 more different websites with different BS stories and a different name,Angela,Angelina or what ever, none of these so called at home jobs are for real, and this rebate Processing is misleading, they tell you you fill out forms for people to obtain Rebates from Products they have bought,Thay don’t tell you until after they have your Money that you need to place ads that some are free and the others are like click and Pay and a whole bunch of other crap that you have to go through, want real jobs from real companies go to Homejobstop.com yes there is a memnership fee of $24.00 but its worth it not to have to listen and read all this BS all these so called internet make a Fortune BS Jobs go,People wake Up the only ones making any money on these deals are the scammers that run them

  23. David Tadman Says:

    I agree with Kurt.

Success only comes with continued persistence.

We need to learn from our mistakes and move forward. Backward glances can cause us to run into the wall ahead.

The key is to only invest as much as you can afford to lose and to choose only those products that promise to move you in your chosen direction.

To do this you need to CHOOSE where you want to go and to ACT on these choices

  24. matthew shaulis Says:

Daegan, you have made a valid point,it’s all in the perception of the individual! If you were told by a guru that you didn’t need a website, then as soon as he took your money he tells you the opposite(referring to Lori’s comment here) did you get ripped off? or did you learn something? Sure the price of wisdom may seem high at times, especially in such a cold world, but isn’t it better to learn a lesson now than to have to learn it later? I always advocate getting the hard lessons out of the way early, that way I will have smooth sailing in the future.

  25. Lilly Says:

    I see it both ways.
I lost not just $7 or $97 or even $497, but $2500 and my ex-bank is suing me for it. In three months directly following this deal, I lost $2500 I never had, my tax rebate, two months worth of child support payments (that usually come in time to use for rent), local stores had checks returned, subscription payments bounced and one ended up in collections. I researched bank regulations and came to believe that the bank, as an FDIC insured FCU, has a responsibility to me as customer and member to protect me from “burglary, defalcation and other forms of …can’t quite remember the words, but basically the bank is insured against loss, and against loss on the part of a member. that is what they as a FCU have to guarantee when they become an FCU. So I have taken their small claims suit out of small claims court and asked for full civil court rules and a jury trial. And on go the legal games which I won’t get into here, except to say, it is an interesting game.

But the shock of seeing -$2500 in my acct was enormous! And it took me a while to start being proactive and dealing with the situation-and, I still find this hard to believe, it took me almost 3 months to get an acct in a new bank, and have my auto deposits like child support switched to the new acct. Shock and Fear can do that to a person-put them in a go hide mode, don’t look around and they won’t see you sort of thing. I felt so stupid, ignorant. It seemed like everybody I passed was thinking that, or giving me weird looks-like I had “stupid person” branded on my forehead.

What I realize now, is this period of inaction is normal and I wasn’t entirely inactive.

I went to the police who sent me to the FBI, who said, “Sorry, there are so many scams online and we’re getting so many calls everyday, that if you haven’t lost at least half a million we’re not interested.” Now this is in the interior of Alaska where we have 2 FBI guys, just 2. So even in little Fairbanks, people are getting scammed or possibly letting themselves get ripped off or however you want to look at it. To me, that $2500 was worth far more than $500,000. I can’t afford that kind of debt or loss.

I got a lead from an ex-bank manager that the bank had to refund my money, that they were not following regulations. I spent a lot of time on line and in the law library researching banking laws and regulations, and realized she was right.

when it became obvious the bank was not going to refund my acct no matter what statute or reg I quoted in letters to it, I opened a new acct in a new bank. That was a bummer-to go from a bank I had been with for 28 years, to a brand new one.

So, was I ripped off or did I let myself get ripped off? I got scammed and and let myself get ripped off regardless of how well I thought I did my homework on the situation. I do know I had doubts, but greed got the better of me. I thought I was going to make an easy $2500! Instead, it was stolen, I lost it. So, I’ve learned to be a bit more proactive, I’ve learned how to use a law library, and I’ve learned to listen to my doubts. If something seems to good to be true, it probably is. And yes, I let myself get ripped off by not listening to my gut feeling that something wasn’t quite right.

Right now with a crashing economy, people are afraid, they can’t afford to lose money-they’re already losing their houses and cars and are feeling desperate. The people the marketing gurus are trying to hit are these people who are on the brink of crashing. Desperate to make more money, scared of losing anymore of what they have. Who can blame them!? Have they been ripped off-yes. By the Wall St., by the feds who were supposed to be monitoring Wall St., by unscrupulous bankers, by the feds who were supposed to be monitoring the unscrupulous bankers. Did they let themselves get ripped off? Possibly. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Some people might have wondered how they were able to get themselves a mortgage for million dollar house with a thousand dollar income, but they got a house! It was probably a dream like no other for them.

Once you’ve lost a lot, you can become way afraid of losing anymore. Paying $197.00 for a deal that may well leave me poorer $197 is hard to contemplate, my rent and bills are far more important today than a deal that MAY make me some money tomorrow. I don’t mind paying $7 for a book, or even more for a year’s premium membership in a ptc if it means getting to payout faster and more frequently. But I do prefer to be able to look at a book first, skim through it and see if it has what I want. I only pay for an upgrade after I’ve researched the site, checked the forums, looked at the websites that do monitoring on various programs and by checking on my gut feeling.

I am hesitant to put money out online for a unsure deal-now when it comes to beads, I have no trouble, lol-But is it hesitancy and fear, or is it caution?

It seems obvious that buying into a program that says it will make you rich-may make you rich, or it may not. It seems to me that what will work well for one person might not work well for another, and there is where the “getting ripped off” feeling may come into play in internet business. People-like me-need to take the time and fork over a bit of money to experiment and see what fits with lifestyle, abilities, time and timimg. Figure out what fits, and maybe, in the end, figure out they’re not meant to be business people. I do believe we all fit somewhere, and our life quest is to find that fit where we belong. Getting rich isn’t going to happen to everybody. I want comfort and freedom from the bill collector. I don’t need or want a big fancy house-I don’t like housework all that much, but I want a house. I don’t need a mazarati, but I need a car that will run at 50 below in the winter (the dog team always did-but they ran on fish and knew where their fish were at the end of the day). It would be fun to have a little racey car, but actually, in Alaska you can only drive them for a few months of the year and then the potholes are so bad, a little racey car would just fall in!

Wow, sorry, I got carried away. To answer the question, yes we let ourselves get ripped off, when we aren’t being true to ourselves and are being stupid. but there are scams out there that are hard to distinguish from non-scams. Just because something doesn’t work for you or me, doesn’t mean it’s a scam, but when a monitoring website says a particular program is believed to be a scam and gives reasonable evidence, it probably is. The only one in the end who will protect us is ourselves, by being alert, aware, doing the background research, and trusting our gut feelings.
Sorry for being so long and round about, but I got there in the end.

  26. Frank Tocco Says:

    Daegan,
Learning anything has a cost to it of time and sometimes money. People spend a small fortune for education to get a decent job nd learning to make money on your computer from home is also an investment in one’s future.
I believe that most of the time the people that are complaining that they got ripped-off because they didn’t get the same results that someone else got from a book or program, never applied what they learned from the book oin the first place, or if they did try, they didn’t add any passion or consistancy to their efforts.
Often times the successful people that have online businesses have invested years and a substancail amount of money into their education about marketing online before they were successful. I used to play music professionally and I can tell you that to the casual observer, we had “overnight success” but there was nothing overnight about it.
Unsuccessful people seem to need someone to blame for their lack of focus, passion and success. If they put as much pasion into succeeding as they do blaming they would be millionaires by now.

Hi Daegan, .. :) Had to comment on this one… Whoa.. ! & Brilliant post!

Nice to know we can all be gullible occasionally! Even yourself.. :) Ouch!

Being ripped off (online even more so) is just a perception really isn’t it? Man oh Man ..
    I could write a book.. (maybe I should) & SELL it..hmmmm ! LOL..

Anyways, I wish I knew way back when, what I know now.. (only 20k later)….
I consider most of my being ripped off as a learning curve, (harsh as it was)
if not for those experiences, well hey! looking back in hindsight..
Should have known better, just way to naive & trusting at the time! Doh!

Being scared or should I say at least a little skeptical these days can be a good thing,
with all the B.S that is out there.. even more so for freshies!(or newbs)…

Learning who to trust , & who NOT to is all a part of the bigger picture
really .. I have never bought any of your products.. (my bad).. but you
have not deleted me from your list! So thanks for that.. most would have by now!
(& It has been quite a while now … :)

I really enjoy your emails, follow your blog..love the feedback stories you send,
and do know you are one of the good guys online.. and have listened to some of
your calls which are much appreciated by the way!.. & all for Free ..
& very informative too, I might add..

Mind You, your gut instincts when listened to, can do you a huge favour!
But paranoia about everything & everyone is getting a little bit over the top!
Semi understandable when you have been burnt a few times.. I guess..

However, everything in life is risky, without that.. What’s the point?
“No pain, No gain” as they say..

So keep doing what you do! You help a lot more people than you may even know!

    Cheers, Dianne in NZ :)

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to All, and Daegan I Hope you get your rental stuff sorted..
Perhaps a urine test next time interviewing for tenants.. LOL.. :)
Hey they do it for employment, why not?
    All the best! Cya…

  28. Diane Says:

    Hi Daegan,Kurt, Lori and LillY,
I just read your postings and wanted to let you know I can relate and I’m sorry for your mis-fortune. It sounds like you all overcame the misfortunes and found your niche after all. I am still looking, and yes I’m scared of being ripped off again.I am one of those people on a fixed income, who ie taking care and responsibility for another disabled person, and I simpy can not afford to lose alot of money. That does not stop me from wanting to find out if there is something I can do to make life better for us, I am a soft touch for animals too,I just can’t turn away a homeless cat or dog.Or even a “pot belly pig”,or a horse, on one occasion. I was able to find their owners, fortunately. I still have 12 cats and eight dogs, though I had more at one time, some of the little critters went to dog and kitty heaven, even after super sized vet bills. I want you to know,I am not complaining, just explaining. I know the only way to lose is to quit. So I keep looking.Am I afraid of being ripped off? Yes. It’s not like I only have myself to worry about, if I lose my house, what will happen to my friend and all thses animals? My friends’ Rx bill is $600- $800.00 a month, mine is fortunatley paid for by the govt (you), as I am a “non combat” veteran (Vietnam era). Wouldn’t you worry too? I just do not have the “fire in the belly” I used to have, I think I’ve lost my self confidence some place along the way, or maybe it’s just the fear of spending money I don’t really have, then either failing,(if it’s a legitimate program) or getting ripped off. Either way, it’s the same outcome. We had (2) hurricanes’ here in the past 3 years, all refrigerated and frozen food spoiled, all electronic and/or electrical appliances and items ruined completely, except my computer, which was only half ruined ie: some programs don’t work, the sound doesn’t work, the printer is whacked. I have been spending money to get trees cut down and hauled off, the ones that didn’t fall or break,my computer has to take a back seat. How are training sessions going to help me when I have no sound? no printer? Theses are not excuses, they are FACT.In spite of these few things I have shared with you, yes, there are more,I have this feeling that I am going to find something that I can do and I’m going to be successful. I don’t yet know how or what, but I’ll find it. I don’t even know yet if I’ve found it and am missing out. Is opportunity knocking and I can’t hear it? I don’t know.
I am proud of all of you for forging ahead with your dreams and your successes. I wish you all well and continued success in the future. You all “sound” like wonderful people that it would be a pleasure to know. Take care, I’ll be thinking about you.

I have learned more in my education as an Internet Marketer than the eight plus years I spent in a traditional college. Sure, most of us can admit that all the material out their is not all that great. Some info is phenomenal while other’s are a mediocre at best. However if I gain only one piece of information from that mediocre book or product that will help me grow my business then I can’t really say that product is a total “rip off”. I try to apply at least one thing from the information that I get from my training.

Most of these people complaining are looking for a get-rich-quick scheme and want instant results. To top it off, those screaming rip-off probably aren’t applying the techniques presented them. They are just sitting around waiting for things to happen and refuse to take accountability for their own lives.

    Just my two cents.

  30. Steve Jennings Says:

In over 20 years of working with homeless people (in DC, Daegan) I have been scammed more times than I care to count. But those rip-offs are not without value. Everytime that happened, I learned something, and the results weren’t always bad. My family got in on one case, too. I was working with a homeless guy who had just gotten out of federal prison for interstate drug trafficking. Using great stories, he conned us out of about $1,500. When I caught him at it, I was livid and blasted him over the phone. He just hung up. A year later I saw him one afternoon in McPherson Square. He had gotten a job that paid well, had his own car and his own apartment. He never went back to dealing drugs, and he thanked me for all my family and I did to keep him from risking his freedom to make money. Was I ripped off? Sure. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

The point is this: think things through the best you can before you make a move. Seek counsel from others. But don’t let a fear of getting ripped off keep you from taking a calculated risk. You may miss the opportunity of a lifetime. Just be sure you have a way to stay afloat if it doesn’t work out.

Just checked in on the conversation this morning and things are heating up. I even got one person who decided they didn’t want to hear from me anymore because I an used image of Dave Chappelle as Tyrone from the “Chappelle Show” instead of a true life crack head. I’ve learned my lesson. Next time it’s to the back allies of DC for some real life photos to please the skeptics and the truth seekers. I’m beginning to form a few new ideas on this topic myself. Continue to let me know what you think, if you haven’t weighed in on the topic at hand yet, and I think we’ll be able to take this discussion to it’s next phase soon. Amazing insight so far.

Are you saying that blacks are crack head, or that it was blacks that rip you off,or both even. Why did you need those particular set of photos did you not think we could understand where you are coming from without them. I am both disappointed and disgusted that when talking on such issues you found it neccessary to use the image of a black man.

    I a wait your reply

    Loretta,

Take a look at comment #31. These are images of Dave Chappelle, a comedian from his hit TV show “The Chappelle Show” the images made me laugh and if you have ever seen the show you’d know why. Let’s not forget I am a black man as well last time I looked. The images are not about race, this is not a racial discussion, let’s move past that.

  34. Isabel Gelo C. Says:

    Hi D,

Life is about taking risks - period. We get ripped-off everywhere we turn, that’s life. This is an imperfect world. How many vaccuum cleaners have I bought that are junk? How many things in your life have you bought, or invested in that don’t do what the advertiser’s say it does?
Does that mean I stopped looking for a vaccuum cleaner? No, I’ll look into different models, brands and reputable companies…ask my friends and family what they’re using and if they’re satisfied with it. In the meantime, I have a back-up plan…a broom.
What I’m trying to point out is, if you’re looking for financial freedom in the ‘Net - it is attainable. Look for reputable Marketers, such as Daegan, to learn from and implement their techniques. Visit forums and ask for their advice if you’re unsure about a particular eBook or website. Do your due diligence. The worst thing we can do is just keep BUYING - and not researching. The worst thing we can do after that - is not implementing the truths that you ARE learning.
We can be our own worst enemies too, you know. The trick is - to use wisdom and discernment with every step we take. Don’t be afraid to take risks! Some will work out, and some wont. Some College educations work out - some don’t.
In all you do, give it your 100% and strive for excellence and you WILL be with Daegan at the top.

  35. David Says:

Daegan: I would rather call it a “learning experience” - some more costly than others. Even if you didn’t get what you thought you were getting, most of the time there is still something that you learned from the report, e-book, etc. that helps you progress to a more successful level. I think of it as a library - a good library has more than one book on any one subject matter. Good doctors, good scientist, good lawyers(?) have many books on the same subject because they learn something from all of them. The more material we read the more successful we become (you just have to apply what you have learned).

  36. Camilla Says:

    Good morning Daegan,

You’re using the image of Dave Chappelle to show a crack head I thought was very funny and true. I am looking forward to investing in you methods in the near future. I believe you would be a great asset to 5LINX and we are talking about more money, more money, and then some. Checkout my website above and see the plan and the products that can save you thousands of dollars. Even though we are doing well financially we still would like to save. Right?

    BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Godfrey Thaxter Says:

    Hey Daegan,

This is a very interesting topic that can address a very vital principle of success!

Too many people get caught up in the “blame game”, always trying to find someone else to put the blame on. We should all take a page from Harry Truman’s words, “The Buck Stops Here”!

One of the first principle that we as a people should know and understand is “taking responsibility”. You are in charge of your life.

Within the context of what we are discussing here, NO-ONE can make you do something you don’t want to do!

While there are people out there who have only one intention and that is to take your money and run, most people are decent and honest. They might not have your best interest at heart, but they are not willfully trying to rip you off. They are just looking out for themselves.

    A typical scenario:

You have joined a program where you are given an affiliate link to promote. You might also be given ads and emails to promote the program. You got into business to make money, so for that to happen you have to advertise.

The founder, or one of the top income earners might have made $30,000 within a 30 day period, so the ad given to you might read, “How To Make $30,000 In 30 Days”. John as a newbie, was drawn to your ad because of the headline. He visited your page and bought your product.

After receiving that product, John realized that he did not have the skills necessary to make the program work, it would take much more time and a lot more work than anticipated to make that kind of money. John’s first response is, “Wow! I’ve been ripped off again”!

Now, did you really rip off John?

All, or most of us who have been on the internet for any time, have had experiences where we have bought a product, or joined a program that painted a somewhat unrealistic picture of what to expect from our purchase.

We buy into it with the expectation that it would solve our problems. Unfortunately, many times it does not. But is this saying that we were ripped off?

On the contrary, no one forced us to buy in the first place. We made the decision based on our own assessment. Even if it was recommended by someone else, the onus is still on us to make the final decision.

Those of us who are doing business on the internet need to remember that to be successful is a process that takes time and a lot of effort. Too often people join a program or buy a product and expect that one product to provide all the answers.

We are all very fortunate to be on Daegan’s list, and we should be thankful for the inspiring and enlightening guidelines that he provides. Not only are we getting the opportunity to plug into his tried and proven systems that he uses every day, but as someone who have subscribed to many lists in the past year since I’ve been online, his training is among the best out there.

From my brief online experience, most products out there provide some value. Some more than others. One product or program will not provide all the answers to your problems. This is an ongoing process that takes time and effort. So, are you being ripped off when you buy a few ebooks, or join a program that didn’t live up to your expectation?

Stop getting caught up in the blame game. Look at what you learn from the experience, instead of what you didn’t learn. As Lilly said, “the only one who will protect you is yourself.

    Thanks for reading.

As always, thanks for your leadership Daegan!

    Godfrey

  41. Ron B Says:

Wow what a tremendous amount of discussion you have stirred up today!!!

Anytime you get ripped off you feel vulnerable, angered, and hesitant the next time. People must remember that you cannot allow yourself to have your past dictate your future (thanks to Johnny Wimbrey for that quote).

My opinion is that sometimes we invest in something with the hopes it will generate the wealth we desire in a short amount of time, like buying a lottery ticket. Ask Daegan how much he has spent on his education and if all of it was what he thought it would be, does that mean he was ripped off. (D your thoughts are welcome on that last point).

The bottom line is even if you pull one important piece of info from the subject material and implement it, in your overall strategy you are further ahead.
Bottom line is if you are diligent and do not let your emotions get the better of you, you may actually minimize the amount of times you actually do get ripped off.

  42. Larry Potter Says:

I remember back as a junior in high school around 1964,

  43. admin Says:

    Ron,

To be honest with you I wouldn’t change a thing I have bought, an instance where I bought information that was not as claimed, or I joined a business that wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. I’ve personally found I’ve learned the more important lessons from these instances because they’ve allowed me to define what I won’t do and what I don’t want more clearly.

My entire business, to be honest, was spawned from failing at calling leads and saying I don’t like that and I’m not going to spend money or time there anymore.

If not for this failure/misrepresentation our discussion today would not be happening.

    Hi Daegan,

    Love Dave Chappelle, funny guy.

It is interesting to see the many different responses that people bring to a discussion like this.
My feeling is this: You get what you pay for! If you buy a $7 or $37 ebook that claims to make you rich, you are only fooling yourself.

A doctor has to invest years into university education (which costs a lot of money) to enter his profession. Most people do not know how to market, and yet they are in the profession of network marketing… it is the blind leading the blind, and that is why 95% of people fail at this business.

Find a good program, get some marketing education - invest in yourself and your business. Only then will you reach your true potential.

    Have an Amazing Day!

I think every decision I make, good or bad, teaches me volumes about what to do, or not do next time. If “getting ripped off” is only about money, that would be the least of my worries.

  49. Jeanie Says:

Getting ripped-off ia losing over $20,000 on the sale of your home (after 7 months on the market, deeply lowering the price at least twice after spending over #30,000. fixing it up), then making the required move (due to the primary bread-winner’s job and mostly on our own nickel) to another state. Of course the debacle doesn’t end there…jobs are dear–the child doesn’t drive so the wife must work around her schedule…so, she looks for a “home-based business”…a check finally arrives from a purveyor online with instructions to use as a “Mystery Shopper”–you guessed it by now, the deposited check bounces and the checking account tanks by $800.00!! The States’ Attorney’s office—meanwhile, no money for the holidays (at all) and forget the 401Ks, of course!! There are rip-off artists at every level of our society–amorale–anti-social personalities who are also narcissistic–yippee!! Thats’ something to celebrate!!

  50. Don Van Winkle Says:

Getting ripped off just says to me, “Don you were not up to the job at hand.” Sure we make a mistake now and then, but thankgoodness we learn from our success’s. 52. Frances Says:

If you know anything about business, you already know it is necessary to spend money to make money. Sometimes, it just doesn’t fullfill your expectations. In business, we all take a chance and that is what life is all about. In reference, to crackhead — some are functional so you won’t really be able to tell to a point. Because these are the ones that pay their bills etc. Sometimes taking a chance is all you can do.

  53. Porter Anderson Says:

Daegan, being “ripped off” is all about expectations! If you are afraid of being poor, afraid of being broke, and look for the LEAST expensive way to make a permanent, lasting income - which turns out to require more and more commitment, work, trust, and money, that’s not “ripped off”, that’s reality! Of course there are products out there that bait “prospects” with the idea that we can have what we want for just giving our email address, working two hours a day on our computers, and NO ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE! That’s a LIE! Everyone PAYS for what we GET, even though we don’t always GET what we PAY FOR.

Ripped off is expecting more than what is real! Period!

  54. Joe S Says:

    Hi Deagen
It looks like a lot of different opinons on getting ripped off.
My opinion on getting ripped off is where someone offers you a product or service but doesn’t deliver.
How can someone say they got ripped off when they buy a book, ebook, kit, whatever,ETC all the above in hopes of making money? If they received the product then they got what they paid for. Its what happens after that makes a difference if the product was worth what you paid for it.

Let’s say I buy a $97 book to make money and so do you Deagan and so does Mark down the road a mile. Now Deagan reads the book and puts into action what he reads & goes on to make a Million Bucks a yr. Mark he reads the book and dabbles with it a little now and then and makes a one time $500 bucks. But I, I get the book I’m busy with life, I lay it on the shelf forget about it & don’t read it and therefore don’t make a dime. Six months later I find this book and think to myself you know this was a scam and I got ripped off. I want my money back.
The question is,….who if anybody got ripped off? The answer when we return…………

Nobody got ripped off. I paid $97 for the book and received it but I failed to read the book & follow instructions and put into action what was required of me to make money. Had I done so I quite possibly could have surpassed Deagan and made more than a million a yr.

I know you should never invest more than you can afford to lose, but if a person is not willing to take a risk and invest in himself and his or her future. That person has no business even looking.

  55. Ryan Says:

I am not a rich man and I have not really tried alot of these programs, the problem i find alot of the time is these people who start these programs say they were as broke as I am and thier method will work for anyone. Well if they are so sure the method works why do I have to pay for it? I think if a method is as good as these companies say they are then my first check should have the membership cost taken out. I can’t afford to waste money on a scam. I’m not saying this is a scam but anyone can write a testimonial under any name, am I right? So being ripped off to me is having to pay for a program that supposably works.

  56. Nexus Says:

Dave Chappelle is going 2 get u 4 using Tyrone biggins likeness lol :)

  57. Linda Says:

I agree with you, Daegan. “Let the buyer beware, etc. We also have to realize that it’s all “marketing”. Do the burgers you buy at McDonald’s ever look as good as the ones you see on TV? HAH! However, it would be nice if there was some kind of “rating system”, where you could find out right up front how experienced you would need to be to use a particular program; the average time (per day; over how many months); and how much more it would cost you (for advertising & to buy the other products that actually make the first product work as stated!) I really hate it when I buy a product that states ” Newbie Friendly! or “Everything’s done at the push of a button!” or “Be up & running in 10 minutes!” , and then when I’ve paid & get inside, come to find out I need an “FTP thingy, and an autoresponder, and a tracker & a link cloaker, etc.!
Okay , I’m all done whining!:-)

  60. Doreen Munoz Says:

There are many reasons why we buy something online. When you do buy something whether it be a concept for a business, information, etc it spearheaded your interest therefore, you were seeking that information. It’s what you do with what you buy that makes the difference on whether or not the product actually delivers the result you read about in the first place. I think that each time a person doesn’t achieve the results they thought would happen they may have to look at what they did with the product. Any product or information that is bought with prediction of what the result will be if you purchase that product is just that a prediction! You have to take these as learning steps to impulse buying and truly researching what it is you’re buying. I’ve purchased many items online and in most cases it was exactly what was said that I would buy. I think the items you buy that lie/deceive what the product really is are those that are indeed rip offs.

  61. Elizabeth Neal Says:

I’m the same type of person, I trust someone until they give me a reason not to. I think the people who buy something online expecting to get rich in 30 days, are being unrealistic. Then after the pay their hard earned money and find that they aren’t rich in 30 days, they say “well, I got ripped off”. It’s a scam.. I truly believe the only people that will succeed online are the ones that learn from everything they’ve bought, done, tried, etc. It’s not going to happen in 30 days, but people are so tired of working for a company and not having the freedom over their own lives, they want to believe that if they get starting with something online, they can be financially free quickly and without as much effort or even more than they put into their offline job.
    It doesn’t work that way.
I agree with Linda - post 57, it’s frustrating when you buy something and then you find out there are so many more things that you don’t understand how to do, and you thought you would just be able to jump in and get started. But it’s a learning curve and it’s a long process. Myself, I feel that the internet offers so much that if there’s something you don’t know how to do, you can do a search on yahoo or google and find out what it means and how to do it. I love to learn. My main drawback is time. I can learn what I need to, but when it comes to taking the time to sit down and implement the process, I get sidetracked. When you work a full time job, your time is limited to how much you can put into your internet business, but I think the key is setting the time aside, having a list of what you need to do in that time and just doing it, without getting distracted!
Keeping a positive attitude means everything in life and your online business.

Is that worth putting up an wall of fear

I don’t think that it’s worth putting up
a wall of fear but I do think that it’s
worth every penny to take it down… It’ll
be a tough fight but it’ll be worth it.

Is buying a product online that promises
results and then you don’t get the exact same
results the person in the testimonial got
    being ripped off?
    =========================================
I think this is pretty ridiculous… I mean,
    everybody’s different. If I was selling a
product that cures baldness for cats and I
only have one healthy cat VS a person who has
73 balding cats, how can I say I got ripped
off when my cat is perfectly healthy?

It’s a silly example but people and situations
    are different.

    =========================================
Is allowing yourself to be sold into something
you shouldn’t have in retrospect being ripped

    =========================================
Nope, people buy mostly because of emotion…
    not because of logic.

I think people feel they get ripped off when
their hope of “getting” something versus the
emtion when they “got” that something is
    drastically different.

    =========================================
What is being ripped off really?
    =========================================
The product or person over promising and
the product or person under delivering.

    =========================================
And why are so many people so scared?
    =========================================
It’s only natural that we want to defend
    ourselves as human beings ;)

If you buy something that doesn’t make
you instantly rich by putting your credit
card on the line does that mean you’re getting

Absolutely not, as much as I’m an emotional

my usual comfort level, I allow myself to
rationalise if I want to take this opportunity
    to invest into my knowledge.

If so? I’ve been ripped off more than anyone
I know, but I still seemed to keep falling for
it, and for some reason my business keeps
    growing.

I follow a saying that I heard somewhere that

    Daegan,

I believe that what really transpires with the Infamous “Ripped Off” is more likely the information that a person purchased (with a Credit or Debit Card from the safety of their home )
dosen’t provide a Miracle Cash Abundance ( Because you have to work at anything ) then to their rationalization it is a Rip Off.

There are crooks and shysters in everytrhing but that is generally another sto

See this is a tricky question in the belief thatif you buy something or you sell something. In your case it was selling something of value to someone else. You were ripped off by letting someone you didnt believe to be a bad person live in your building and knowingly not pay for it and not doing more to get that person out. Then you knowingly let someone rent that you either knew was suspicious or felt that person was you ripped yourself off on that one. As far as your CD it was great but a little hard to understand for me anyway. People get ripped off everyday but it depends on the definition to that person that feels they got ripped off. So until next time thanx for the good info that you do give and sell.

If you do not have your very own product to sell you allways end up as a loser.

getting ripped off is when that same “crack head” comes in to your home, lies to you, steals your stuff and smiles in your face, (and then some). Been there!!! Pissed me the **** off!! Lessons learned ultimately…so, for the price I had to pay, I learned what was invaluable, so NOTHING is a rip off if you keep it all in the right perspective…sum it up…LIVE & LEARN, and know that EVERYTING (truly) HAPPENS FOR A REASON!! I’ve been through way too much to mention here, but I am grateful for a God that takes our PERCEIVED (key word) failures and turns them into victories, IF, we “…count it all joy…” trusting that our creator has our best interest at heart and we will know and experience that, IF, we believe!!! PERSPECTIVE IS KEY

    Daegan,

I have been with you for several months and enjoy your writings and videos. They supply me with a great deal of information and stimulate ideas as I learn more about internet marketing. I also appreciate that fact that you opened up this forum. Having a place to share our collective experiences is a great help and will only assist with forward momentum. After all, just think of the initial motivation for seeking any “Daegan Smith” material. We all need to keep that in perspective.

Thanks to Juniques, Chuck, James, Sam and Lori for their comments. I concur with you for the lost part. To Jimmie, thanks for the link to Ripoff Report. Folks need to explore that and other sources.

I have been involved in Network Marketing & MLM in one form or another since the mid 80’s. There’s alot that can be said both pro & con, but we must realize that marketing is a “campaign.” We all need to be careful and aware of what we hear and read. Some things are said strictly to pull you in based on what the advertiser thinks their audience wants. Then there are others that don’t give enough information, (this should cause us to question)until after we submit payment info. The main point that I want to make here is, Always question opportunities that require an investment, especially those that appear to be focused on recruiting. You will understand more of “why” as you investigate. Key hear is always investigate before you invest. Our current climate has reinforced that need, even though it’s still not a solid, ironclad guarantee.

The subject of “Getting Ripped Off” has stirred allot of emotion here that’s healthy as long as we learn something from it and do something positive with that experience. (Make a note and move on).
Don’t let those experiences stop you from moving forward by creating fear. Take the fear and the experience with you as you continue your journey.

Thanks for the info and the opportunity.

D, I consider the products I have purchased my ongoing college education. I am not a business person or marketer by trade. Far from it. I got something out of all the products that I purchased. Some were worse than other but I still gleaned something out of the majority of them. The fault lies within if I don’t put that good information to use by taking action and following through on what I have been taught through these products. I am to blame for that.

The whole IM arena presents itself as an easy way to make 6 or 7 figures. However, it takes a lot of learning, doing, testing, retesting, doing etc….blah blah it goes on. When you follow throough on the first thing, it makes the second and subsequent products/business venture that much easier. Moral of the story…

Be Bold & Brave… Take the action necessary to become successful. You don’t have to be perfect! You need to get something started.

Considerable responsibility for being “ripped off” lies with ourselves. If we’d just read what is said instead of what we want it to be saying we’d be “ripped off” less often.
If a promotion says, “I earned $xxxxxxxx over night, it might be completely accurate. Nothing there says that you or I can do the samething because we probably do not have the assets the promoter has.

What the world needs is a copyreading program.
